Understanding identity verification (KYC and KYB)
Updated 3 days ago
Billplz verifies your identity in two stages: individual verification (KYC) to confirm who you are, and organization verification (KYB) to confirm your business is registered and legitimate.
KYC is completed during sign-up. KYB is a separate process completed when you want to activate card or e-wallet payments on your account.
Individual verification (KYC)
KYC (Know Your Customer) verifies your personal identity during the sign-up process. You'll provide:
- MyKad or passport number: entered on the "Complete your account" screen during sign-up
- Full name: must match your ID document exactly
- Face and document verification: you are redirected to Billplz's secure partner, CTOS, to complete e-KYC. This is an automated check where you photograph your ID and take a selfie so the system can verify they match.
The e-KYC process meets Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) regulatory requirements. Individual verification typically completes within minutes.
Organization verification (KYB)
KYB (Know Your Business) verifies that your business is legally registered. KYB is completed when you request card or e-wallet payment activation from Billplz.
Registration details
During sign-up, you provide your organization's registration number. The number type depends on your business structure:
- ROC (Registrar of Companies): for Sdn Bhd, Bhd, LLP, and other incorporated companies
- ROB (Registrar of Business): for sole proprietors and partnerships
- ROS (Registrar of Societies): for registered societies, associations, and NGOs
The organization name you enter must match your registration documents exactly, including suffixes like "Sdn Bhd" or "PLT". The bank account must be in the organization's name, not a personal account.
How to complete KYB
To activate card or e-wallet payments, email [email protected] to request activation. The Billplz team will reply with a list of required documents. Submit the documents via email as instructed.
- Bank Statement: a statement from the past month
- Authorized Signatory: any document showing the authorized person for your organization (e.g., board resolution, SSM Form 49)
- Business Certificate: your SSM registration certificate or equivalent
KYB is complete once the Billplz team has verified your documents. You receive an email confirmation when verification is complete and card or e-wallet payments are activated on your account.
Why KYB matters
KYB verification is required to activate card payments (Visa/Mastercard) and e-wallet payments (DuitNow QR, Boost, Touch 'n Go, GrabPay, ShopeePay) on your account. Without KYB, your account is limited to FPX payments.
Verification timeline
- Individual verification (KYC): completes within minutes during sign-up if information matches government records
- Bank account verification: up to 3 business days after sign-up
- KYB verification: processed after you submit the requested documents via email to the Billplz team
If any verification step takes longer than expected, check your email (including spam) for requests for additional information.
What you can do at each stage
After KYC and bank verification (before KYB):
- Collect FPX payments with no restrictions
After KYB verification:
- Accept card payments (Visa/Mastercard) and e-wallet payments (DuitNow QR, Boost, Touch 'n Go, GrabPay, ShopeePay)
- Card payments settle on the T+2 business day schedule
- E-wallet payments settle on the next day
- Request a Daily Collection Limit (DCL) revision by contacting [email protected]
